Cartagena Memories
In Cartagena Memories, Jorge Yances returns to the streets that shaped him, where every worn
wall and faded doorway holds a story. This series is a tribute to his hometown of Cartagena, Colombia,
capturing the quiet presence of memory in everyday places.
His work captures “the imperceptible interplay between reality and fantasy”, a visual echo of the Latin American
literary tradition of Realismo Mágico. Time folds gently in these paintings. Layers of history live alongside
the present, and old souls seem to walk beside modern life, unnoticed but ever-present.
The pieces invite you to feel the textures of the past, crumbling facades, weathered colors,
echoes of people who once passed through.
“These are not just scenes,” Yances says. “They’re traces of stories still alive, waiting to be seen.”
